Travel Plan Tracker has launched in the UK with a journey-sharing platform designed for electrical contractors, solar installers, maintenance companies, and other mobile service teams.
The system allows a dispatcher or technician to share live journey progress, an updated estimated arrival time, and planned stops with a customer. Access is provided through a browser link sent by SMS or email, removing the need for the recipient to install an application or create an account.
Office teams can create a journey containing the destination, expected arrival time, and optional intermediate stops. Once the trip begins, the customer-facing page updates automatically to show the driver’s position and current arrival estimate.
Location sharing is attached to an individual trip rather than operating continuously throughout the working day. Drivers retain control over when tracking begins, pauses, resumes, and ends, while the customer link closes once the journey is completed.
The application is available on iOS and Android, with dispatch functions accessed through a web dashboard. The platform supports real-time maps, multiple drivers, customer records, branded notifications, route history, and multi-stop journeys.
Available in 25 countries, Travel Plan Tracker supports English and Spanish communications. Its service-team plans include a 30-day trial without a payment card, allowing businesses to assess the dispatcher and customer-notification functions before entering a subscription.
Businesses can open a trial through the service-team registration page. A separate free plan allows occasional personal users to create up to two journeys each month.
Edward Kocol, founder of Travel Plan Tracker, said: “A roofer who shows up at 11:15 to a 10-to-12 window is on time, but the customer who’s been sitting by the window since 9:45 doesn’t feel it. That gap is the problem we solve.”
Arrival data becomes part of field-service delivery
Appointment windows are necessary where job duration, traffic, emergency work, and access conditions make precise schedules difficult. Although a two-hour or four-hour window protects operational flexibility, it gives the customer limited information once the engineer is on the road.
Uncertainty can generate repeated calls to the office, interruptions for the driver, and missed appointments when a customer leaves shortly before the technician arrives. A live link transfers some of that information automatically, provided the location and estimated arrival time remain accurate.
Electrical visits can involve surveys, fault investigation, testing, maintenance, quotation work, or planned installation. Some appointments have predictable durations, while others expand when hidden defects, access problems, isolation requirements, or additional remedial work are discovered.
Journey tracking cannot remove that variation, but it can communicate a revised arrival position once a technician leaves the previous location or begins travelling towards the customer. Dispatchers can include planned stops rather than presenting a direct route that does not reflect the working schedule.
Trip-based sharing also addresses part of the privacy concern associated with continuous workforce tracking. The customer receives visibility only during the relevant journey, while tracking stops on arrival, although employers still need a clear policy covering location data, driver expectations, retention, access, and use for performance management.
Mobile coverage and handset permissions will influence performance because GPS, background-location access, battery management, and data connectivity must continue operating while the vehicle is moving. The service should therefore complement, rather than replace, a route for the customer or dispatcher to make contact when tracking data are unavailable.
Estimated arrival times also depend on route data and journey conditions. Road closures, parking, vehicle access, security checks, and the time required to carry tools into a large site can all create a difference between reaching the postcode and reaching the customer’s door.
Future development is intended to add route templates, enhanced dispatcher functions, and connections with customer-relationship and field-service management systems. Integration would allow job details, customer contacts, driver allocation, and journey status to move between systems without repeated manual entry.
That integration will determine whether the application remains a standalone communication tool or becomes part of a broader operating workflow. Scheduling, stock, certification, invoicing, job records, and customer communications are often handled through separate platforms, creating duplicate data and inconsistent updates.
Travel Plan Tracker enters the UK market with a deliberately focused proposition: share the journey, update the arrival estimate, and stop tracking when the trip ends. Its value will depend on whether technicians and dispatchers can apply that process consistently across everyday service work without adding another administrative layer.
