Nordex receives 700MW German turbine orders

Nordex has secured another major German onshore wind turbine package. UKA’s 700MW order covers 100 machines across several federal states, adding weight to Germany’s delivery pipeline.

Nordex Group has received German onshore wind turbine orders from UKA totalling around 700MW, adding a substantial tranche of hardware to the country’s renewable build-out pipeline.

The orders cover 100 turbines from Nordex’s Delta4000 platform, using N175/6.X and N163/6.X machines with rated capacity of 7MW each. The turbines will be deployed across several projects in different German federal states, with the package also including multi-year service and maintenance agreements.

UKA is one of Germany’s major renewable project developers, active in wind, solar, and battery storage. The latest orders are connected to awards in Germany’s August 2025 and February 2026 renewable energy auction rounds, which provide the commercial base for this delivery phase. UKA has also set an ambition to install 1GW of wind energy capacity in a single calendar year.

A 700MW order carries weight beyond turbine supply. It points to a programme of permitting, civil works, road and crane planning, foundation construction, grid connection, substation work, commissioning, service mobilisation, and long-term asset management. Turbine orders crystallise one stage of that delivery chain, but operational capacity only follows once the engineering, construction, and grid interfaces are complete.

Germany’s onshore wind sector has been shaped by the gap between policy ambition and delivery speed. Permitting bottlenecks, local planning, transport constraints, grid connection capacity, auction design, and supply-chain conditions have all affected deployment. Larger turbines can improve output per site where land is constrained, but they also increase the demands on logistics, foundations, lifting operations, and site access.

Projects already reaching operation in Germany, including the 33.6MW Nachtsheim-Luxem wind farm, show the final stages of that process: development work becomes energy only after construction, electrical works, grid energisation, and early operational optimisation are complete. UKA’s Nordex portfolio now faces that same conversion from awarded pipeline to generating assets.

Nordex’s role as a turbine supplier also extends into the UK market. The company is supplying turbines for the 93.8MW Twyn Hywel project in Wales, a separate example of onshore wind moving from financing into project delivery. The comparison underlines the pressure on turbine manufacturers to serve multiple European markets while managing factory slots, component supply, transport planning, and service commitments.

Germany remains a demanding market for turbine suppliers. Customers expect high yield, service availability, grid-code compliance, noise performance, environmental compatibility, and reliable logistics. Large project portfolios also require delivery slots that align with permit conditions, auction milestones, financing schedules, and network readiness. A strong order book supports factory utilisation, but it also increases exposure to execution risk if supply chains or installation schedules tighten.

The use of 7MW-class turbines reflects the direction of modern onshore wind. Larger rotor diameters and higher nameplate capacity can reduce the number of turbines required for a given project capacity, improving energy yield where planning rules allow. Those gains are accompanied by more demanding site assessment, including wind conditions, turbulence, blade transport, crane pad design, and structural loads on towers and foundations.

Multi-year service agreements have become central to project economics. Higher-capacity turbines concentrate more generation in each machine, so downtime carries greater output loss. Predictive maintenance, spare-parts availability, remote monitoring, blade inspection, and safe access procedures all influence operating performance after commissioning.

The Nordex-UKA package gives Germany another large signal of onshore wind movement. The harder work now sits in delivery: converting 100 turbine orders into built, connected, and maintained assets across several federal states while Germany’s wider grid, permitting, and construction systems remain under pressure.
