Rubix has secured a three-year agreement with EDF to supply maintenance, repair, and overhaul products and associated services during construction of Hinkley Point C in Somerset.
The agreement expands an existing relationship between the industrial distributor and EDF and includes access to Rubix’s product range, technical expertise, and managed inventory service. Equipment used within the nuclear reactors themselves is explicitly outside the scope.
That boundary is important on a project where the nuclear supply chain ranges from reactor systems and safety-classified components to the much broader inventory of industrial products needed to sustain a large and lengthy construction programme. Rubix’s role sits within construction support, but the environment still demands tighter controls around provenance, quality, and product traceability than many conventional industrial sites.
The company says its previous work across EDF’s nuclear estate has established delivery processes suited to highly regulated and safety-critical operations. Capabilities highlighted in the supplied agreement include supplier auditing, counterfeit avoidance, quality management, and traceability through the industrial supply chain.

The practical importance of MRO supply lies in the quantity and frequency of relatively ordinary industrial requirements behind major engineering work. Construction teams depend on tools, mechanical products, replacement components, consumables, safety equipment, workshop items, and supporting services that rarely appear in project milestone announcements but can still interrupt work when they are unavailable.
A managed inventory system is intended to reduce those interruptions by controlling what stock is held, how it is replenished, and where responsibility sits for maintaining availability. On a project employing thousands of people over many years, comparatively inexpensive missing components can consume far more value in lost labour and delayed work than their purchase price would suggest.
Consolidating parts of the MRO supply chain can reduce purchasing fragmentation, although the benefit depends on preserving technical suitability and traceability. A nuclear construction project cannot treat supplier consolidation as a simple exercise in reducing transaction numbers if components become harder to identify, approve, or audit as a result.
Rubix’s agreement places particular emphasis on product traceability and a secure, compliant supply chain. Counterfeit avoidance is one aspect of that requirement because industrial components that do not match their stated specification or provenance create risks well beyond conventional procurement cost.
Supplier auditing and quality management perform a similar function. Even where an item is not part of the reactor itself, contractors still need confidence that products used across construction operations are what the documentation says they are and have travelled through authorised purchasing routes.
Digital security also forms part of the distributor’s positioning. Rubix holds Cyber Essentials Plus certification, a higher-assurance version of the UK government’s Cyber Essentials scheme that involves independent technical verification of security controls.
That capability is relevant because modern industrial distribution depends heavily on electronic procurement, inventory systems, supplier databases, order records, customer information, and connected business processes. Secure industrial supply therefore includes the systems used to specify and move products as well as the physical goods themselves.

Hinkley Point C comprises two UK EPR reactors under construction in Somerset. EDF gives the station a planned combined generating capacity of 3,260MW and says it will produce enough low-carbon electricity to meet demand equivalent to around six million homes once operational.
The project is progressively moving from major civil engineering into increasingly equipment-intensive phases of mechanical, electrical, and systems installation. That transition does not reduce MRO demand; it changes its composition as construction, commissioning, workshops, temporary services, and installed equipment create different requirements across the site.
Large infrastructure projects can devote enormous effort to managing critical-path components while routine industrial supply receives less attention precisely because the individual products are commonplace. The cumulative effect is different: thousands of small procurement failures can become an operational constraint even though no single missing item looks material at project level.
Rubix’s new EDF agreement is aimed at that less visible part of Hinkley Point C. The distributor is not supplying reactor equipment under the arrangement, but it will be responsible for helping construction teams obtain traceable MRO products and services over the next three years — the sort of supply function that attracts little attention when it works and becomes immediately noticeable when it does not.
