Schneider Electric has launched Schneider Boost Pro in the UK, adding a new battery energy storage option for commercial buildings, industrial facilities, depot environments, and transport infrastructure where rising electrical loads are colliding with tighter grid capacity and more complex site energy profiles.

The system is designed as a local battery storage platform that can be used to shift load, increase self-consumption of on-site renewable generation, and support backup power needs. Schneider says the platform can scale from around 200 kWh to 2 MWh by combining up to 10 units, placing it in the range where it can serve not only conventional commercial buildings but also higher-demand applications such as fleet depots and charging sites for heavy-duty vehicles.

That transport angle is one of the more relevant aspects of the launch. Schneider Boost Pro is being positioned as suitable for depot environments serving buses and trucks, and for transit infrastructure where reliable, high-capacity charging is required. In practical terms, that means the product is not being framed only as a behind-the-meter storage asset for buildings, but as part of the wider electrification stack linking power distribution, charging hardware, control systems, and software.

Schneider’s stated use cases include self-consumption optimisation, temporary extra power allocation where site demand exceeds available imported capacity, and tariff management through off-peak charging and peak-period discharge. The platform also integrates with EcoStruxure Microgrid Advisor, which uses forecasting around weather, site production, demand, and market conditions to inform operating decisions. Cybersecurity-by-design is another core feature, reflecting the fact that storage systems are now digital infrastructure as much as electrical plant.

The UK launch lands into a market that is steadily moving towards more layered site energy strategies. Commercial and industrial operators increasingly want the benefits of solar generation, on-site storage, electrified heat or transport loads, and some degree of resilience, but often within the constraints of existing grid connections. In that setting, storage is becoming part of capacity management rather than only an optional sustainability measure. It can be used to reshape demand peaks, support charging roll-outs, and reduce the amount of reinforcement required before a site can expand.

That does not remove the need for network investment, but it changes the order in which some projects can proceed. A site with storage, charging control, and energy management software can often make more effective use of a constrained connection than one that relies on imported power alone. That is particularly relevant in depots and mixed-use commercial locations, where charging demand can spike sharply and where the cost of oversizing import capacity may be difficult to justify at an early stage.

The product also reflects a wider convergence in the market. Storage is no longer a stand-alone category sitting apart from electrical systems design. It is increasingly being sold as part of an integrated architecture that includes switchgear, protection, controls, software, and EV infrastructure. That places greater emphasis on integration quality, cyber resilience, and how a site is managed over time rather than on battery capacity in isolation.
